SOUTH OTTAWA– Looking for a win to even the season series at 1-1-1, the SweatSox came up empty as we lost 8-4 to the Winchester Heat last night at Southgate.
The bigger loss actually happened just before the game, when we were informed that South Ottawa Little League coach Marc Lett had just rolled his ankle hitting infield practice to his junior team. The issue here is that Coach Lett is also the SweatSox #1 catcher, and the injury looks serious enough that we may not have just lost him for last night’s game, but possibly the rest of the season. This is exactly why the SweatSox have a strict “No Practice” policy.
After screwing over Craig Cornell a few games prior by having him play LF all game without getting any AB’s, SweatSox Authority Cory Bond made it up to him by granting him EH status for this game in the blistering heat. Cornell was pumped.
The Consultant’s hopes & dreams came crashing down when news of the Lett injury broke, and he realized that not only would he have to play the field, but he’d have to catch.
The actual game was close for a while, with both teams trading runs over the first 3 innings. Eric White led the SweatSox with 4 of our 7 hits, and 5 of our 7 stolen bases, but that wasn’t enough to carry us to victory. The Heat pulled away late, won the game 8-4, and the season series 2-0-1.
After the game the entire team, minus Chris Lidstone who got the text message hook, were invited over to 3065 Banana Valley Road (aka Marc Lett’s place) to take a quick dip in his pond, and to of course play with his goats. As always, it was a good night.
Next up for the SweatSox is our first and only matchup of the regular season against the Lumberjacks, this Friday night at Kinsmen. Josh Ramage is scheduled for the start, and he has no plans of exiting the game mid-inning, or else…
