A Variety of Pickled Breads | SweatSox vs Rockets 2.0 RECAP

Posted on August 9, 2022August 9, 2022

THE TRILL– On June 26th, Craig Cornell officially became the 20th player in NCBL history to walk 200 times, drawing a key walk off Rockets ace Nick Lenardon in the 6th inning of what was at that moment still a 0-0 game.

This should’ve been a celebration for the ages, the crowning achievement of Cornell’s illustrious baseball career, but later that inning, this outstanding accomplishment was quickly overshadowed by something even more legendary…

We could just yadda yadda through the first 5 innings (aka the first 20 minutes of the game), but basically: the efficiency of Josh Ramage (SweatSox) was perfectly countering the quickness of Nick Lenardon (Rockets). They had given up a combined 3 hits heading into the 6th, with no signs of letting up.

And then it happened.

In the bottom of the 6th with 1-out, Rockets pinch hitter Andrew Belmore hit a hard ground ball up the middle into center field.  SweatSox CF Kent Johnston Eric White was really feeling it, and decided to try and throw him out at 1st, for what had to be the 1st 8-3 putout in baseball history… AND IT WORKED!!!!  Incredible play.  Heroic effort.  Legendary moment.

Nah just kidding, an 8-3 is not physically possible.  I mean I have seen Ramage hit into a 9-3, and even a 7-3, but an 8-3 simply can’t be done.  In fact, witnesses say White’s thrown ball from center would’ve hit the wave pool if not for the fence above the dugout.  Ramage absolutely lost it on the mound, leading to a Francois the Tankois single, and then a bases clearing double from SweatSox Killer John Carbonette.  2 runs was more than enough for Lenardon to call it a day and turn it over to the Tank for the save.  Rockets win 2-0.

Tonight, Ramage turned back the clock and was throwing the Duke as well as he was during the 2019 Finals when the “other team” had no idea what to do with it.

Unfortunately, we’re still winless all-time in games where we score less than 1 run.

Final SweatSox vs Rockets Notes/Thoughts:

  • It is now possible to drink Hijinx at the Hyjinx.
  • Code: Blue
  • In golf, 65 is better than 66, which is better than 69.
  • No matter your age, race, gender, or sexuality, if you steal Josh’s ball, it’s go time.
  • Kent is skipping baseball to play in the World Golf Championship of Ottawa.
  • Josh pitched great, but he really let the team down with the L.
  • My hit was questionable, downgraded to doubtful, but remains official.
  • Dick arm is fine, pinky penis is not.
  • We’re going to need a new catcher in 5 years, unless we’re in a P.E.I. tourney, then we got one.
  • Eric loves the tip on his face.
  • Finally, we all now know what BDE is.
  • Kent’s seed game is weaker this year.
  • I made boom boom at a gas station between Trillium and Summerhays.
  • In a shocking twist, Eric tested positive the next day.
