{"id":1055,"date":"2015-05-17T23:40:13","date_gmt":"2015-05-18T03:40:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sweatsoxbaseball.com\/blog\/?p=1055"},"modified":"2015-05-17T23:51:47","modified_gmt":"2015-05-18T03:51:47","slug":"this-is-my-girlfriend-this-season","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sweatsoxbaseball.com\/blog\/2015\/05\/17\/this-is-my-girlfriend-this-season\/","title":{"rendered":"\u201cThis Is My Girlfriend This Season\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For the first time since 2014, the SweatSox have opened the season 2-0.\u00a0 While most teams would be pretty happy going undefeated through week 1, we of course know better after going 5-17 down the stretch last year (5-22 if you count tournaments).<\/p>\n<p>We knew getting off to a quick start this season would only be possible if we practiced whenever and wherever we could.\u00a0 The first Alliance practice was a good step forward, but we took two steps back when our 2.5-hour Southgate practice was cancelled due to the rain a few days later.<\/p>\n<p>The SweatSox pitchers needed to get some reps, so the next day they went to Pinecrest Park looking to use any of the 6 baseball diamonds to practice.\u00a0 Only 1 field was available though: the T-ball diamond, which meant we were literally \u201cstarting from the bottom\u201d.\u00a0 If that was the bottom, we somehow found a way to get even lower because the T-ball dude showed up and kicked us off.\u00a0 According to the internal SweatSox communication system, the guys took the drive of shame and went deep into East Nepean territory to throw.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sweatsoxbaseball.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/2015grenfell1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-1059\" src=\"http:\/\/sweatsoxbaseball.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/2015grenfell1-1024x633.jpg\" alt=\"2015grenfell1\" width=\"700\" height=\"433\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sweatsoxbaseball.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/2015grenfell1-1024x633.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/sweatsoxbaseball.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/2015grenfell1-300x185.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sweatsoxbaseball.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/2015grenfell1-900x556.jpg 900w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It was good that the pitchers were able to throw, but what about the offense &amp; defense?\u00a0 We had the 2nd Alliance practice later in the week, but we knew that wouldn\u2019t be enough to practice everything we needed to practice (basically everything).\u00a0 Thankfully, Commissioner Beelen was able to find us a slot at the rarely used Britannia, a field in 10x better shape than McCarthy.\u00a0 That practice happened on Wednesday, May 6th, 2015, a day I\u2019ll never forget because that was the day I became NCBL Secretary!<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Your new <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ncbl?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@NCBL<\/a> Secretary?!? <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/iShaunKeay?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#iShaunKeay<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/t.co\/XiQEULmm5l\">pic.twitter.com\/XiQEULmm5l<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; SweatSox (@SweatSox) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SweatSox\/status\/596110350568783872?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 7, 2015<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 4px;\">Final Britannia Practice Notes\/Thoughts:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Army left practice early so he could finish working on his garden.<\/li>\n<li>Andrew Elias made his first appearance of the calendar year, meaning the SweatSox finally got all their random non-baseball related medical questions answered.<\/li>\n<li>The green Limited Edition Red Bull is far superior to the original flavor.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\">\u201cIS HE GOING TO WRITE THAT WE PRACTICED ON THE FOOTBALL FIELD?\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The 2nd Alliance practice took place at Trillium; a field the Panthers took one look at and decided the Gloucester High School football field was a better option for them.\u00a0 We were able to work on our defense, our hitting, but more importantly our barbequing.\u00a0 We needed a bit more work on our melted popsicle handling though.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sweatsoxbaseball.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/2015trillium1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-1062\" src=\"http:\/\/sweatsoxbaseball.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/2015trillium1-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"2015trillium1\" width=\"636\" height=\"424\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sweatsoxbaseball.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/2015trillium1-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/sweatsoxbaseball.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/2015trillium1-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sweatsoxbaseball.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/2015trillium1-900x600.jpg 900w, https:\/\/sweatsoxbaseball.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/2015trillium1.jpg 1935w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 636px) 100vw, 636px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Tier 4 Lynx showed up in the later Trillium slot to practice under the lights, and were clearly worried some punk kids were going to turn the lights off on them.\u00a0 Thankfully, the Panthers volunteered to guard the light switch, making sure the Lynx could get their full practice in.\u00a0 The PMA Panthers: Guardians of the NCBL.<\/p>\n<p>The Apr\u00e8s Practice Hyjinx will forever be remembered as the time MinderStone (a server) tried convincing us that the tip on a $16 bill should be more than the tip on a $19 bill. Hope you&#39;re enjoying your Ireland trip. xoxo<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; SweatSox (@SweatSox) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SweatSox\/status\/597528056379637761?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 10, 2015<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>The winner of the 2004 A&amp;W Kamloops International Baseball Game MVP Award was Cory Bond.\u00a0 Our GLE threw 4 innings (0R, 2BB, 4H, 5K) and somehow found the time to create a lineup where Army batted 6th!<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 4px;\">Honourable mentions go out to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Eric White, who had 2 hits and played a mean 2nd base.<\/li>\n<li>Marc Lett, who reached base 3 times (BB, HBP, 2B).<\/li>\n<li>#iShaunKeay and Mark Bond, each with 2RBI.<\/li>\n<li>Cornwall Catcher\/SweatSox supporter Chris Poirier, who blocked a pitch in the dirt with his face, then threw Ross Hughes out at 2nd.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Apr\u00e8s Baseball Hyjinx was mostly spent discussing the difference between a precedent and a President.\u00a0 Luckily, our \u201cNut With A Phone\u201d John Groves was able to provide some insight:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sweatsoxbaseball.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/2015game01president.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1061\" src=\"http:\/\/sweatsoxbaseball.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/2015game01president.png\" alt=\"2015game01president\" width=\"670\" height=\"462\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sweatsoxbaseball.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/2015game01president.png 670w, https:\/\/sweatsoxbaseball.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/2015game01president-300x207.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 670px) 100vw, 670px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Broment of the Day<\/strong><\/span>: Cory Bond and The Dorion Head were reunited for the first time since #14 was named our 2014 MVP.\u00a0 I\u2019m told there were a lot of tears, but nobody lost their hair, nose, or hat this time.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 4px;\">Final SweatSox vs Cornwall Notes\/Thoughts:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ross Hughes subconsciously wanted to go to ComicCon instead of our game.<\/li>\n<li>Mark Bond needs\u00a0bunt signs.<\/li>\n<li>Mark Stinson isn\u2019t afraid to get dirty in the outfield.<\/li>\n<li>The SweatSox are 3-0 in games vs Cornwall that Cory Bond starts.<\/li>\n<li>The SweatSox improve to 4-0 vs Cornwall at Kinsmen.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\">\u201cWHEN I SAY HEADS UP, YOU\u2019RE SUPPOSED TO LOOK UP\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Having been in the NCBL since 1981, it\u2019s rare the SweatSox face somebody we\u2019ve never faced before.\u00a0 This past Tuesday, we added a new team to the list as the SweatSox and Orioles faced off for the first time in NCBL history.\u00a0 Established in 2012, the Orioles have already been both Tier 3 finalists and Tier 3 champions, winning a pennant along the way.<\/p>\n<p>Josh Ramage got the start for the SweatSox, pitching against the reigning Tier 3 champs while looking for his first win in nearly 2 years (July 22, 2013 vs Winchester in Ottawa, naturally).\u00a0 Like GLE on opening day, Ramage pitched 4 innings of no-run ball, leaving the game with a 2-0 lead thanks to a 2RBI single from I, Shaun Keay.<\/p>\n<p>The SweatSox extended the lead in the 6th, scoring 3 more runs after two-out RBI\u2019s from Eric White &amp; Cory Bond.\u00a0 The 5 Sox runs was more than enough for The Janitor, who closed it out with a 3 inning save, retiring the final 7 batters he faced.\u00a0 SweatSox win 5-1, start the season 2-0, and are exactly where the last place 2014 SweatSox were at this point last year.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">SweatSox 5.
