{"id":1113,"date":"2015-05-31T00:43:41","date_gmt":"2015-05-31T04:43:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sweatsoxbaseball.com\/blog\/?p=1113"},"modified":"2015-05-31T00:58:53","modified_gmt":"2015-05-31T04:58:53","slug":"king-of-the-wing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sweatsoxbaseball.com\/blog\/2015\/05\/31\/king-of-the-wing\/","title":{"rendered":"King of the Wing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The SweatSox have played the Ottawa Mudd 26 times since the team formerly from Metcalfe dropped down to Tier 2 in 2007.\u00a0 We may have only played Winchester more times, but half those games don\u2019t really count since they\u2019re played on field originally designed for 10 year olds.\u00a0 The Mudd lead the lifetime series 14-12; with a mathematical mean score of 5-3 per game.\u00a0 Basically, the SweatSox can\u2019t score runs against the Mudd.\u00a0 That didn\u2019t change this past Thursday night.<\/p>\n<p>Having played 3 of our first 5 games at Southgate, we finally got a treat playing at the Sportsplex.\u00a0 While 12 SweatSox enjoyed a nice pregame warmup on a real field, the 7 Mudd players were scrambling for ETA\u2019s on the rest of their starting lineup.\u00a0 Somehow they found 10 bodies to dress, which meant no SweatSox default win, which ultimately meant doom for the SweatSox.<\/p>\n<p>If you don\u2019t count the 3rd inning, where the Mudd scored 3 runs off 4 hits, it was a 0-0 game.\u00a0 Unfortunately you have to count them all, and so the Mudd shutout the SweatSox for the 5th, and likely not the last time.\u00a0 To make matter worse, we only had 2 hits (Marc Lett, Kent Johnston), and only got 1 runner to 3rd base (John Groves).<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" lang=\"en\" data-cards=\"hidden\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Mudd 3. stat app at 1h 36m.\u00a0 It should\u2019ve been a few minutes quicker, but there was a brief delay in the game to fix a broken strap at third base.\u00a0 It\u2019s really a shame there isn\u2019t another option for more reliable and\/or sturdy bases.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sweatsoxbaseball.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/2015game6delay.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" everything you\u2019d want from a starter: throw a complete game, strike out 6, and give up just 3 runs.\u00a0 It was the bats that let him (and us) down, which he made perfectly clear to the team after the game.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking of the bats, did you know that the SweatSox are now 0-2 since they went to the cages last weekend?<\/p>\n<div class=\"jetpack-video-wrapper\"><span mention goes out to our Authority and GLE Cory Bond, who played in his 150th straight regular season game after subbing in for me at 1B in the top of the 7th.<\/p>\n<p>A quick 1-inning appearance is very clever way of getting a <em>game played<\/em> to help reach certain milestones, a strategy not lost on, and quickly adopted by, those no-good Nepean Brewers and a certain former
