{"id":1202,"date":"2015-06-18T21:26:11","date_gmt":"2015-06-19T01:26:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sweatsoxbaseball.com\/blog\/?p=1202"},"modified":"2015-06-18T21:39:12","modified_gmt":"2015-06-19T01:39:12","slug":"were-here-for-the-orgy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sweatsoxbaseball.com\/blog\/2015\/06\/18\/were-here-for-the-orgy\/","title":{"rendered":"We&#8217;re Here For The Orgy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This past weekend the SweatSox played in the 2nd annual Heritage Classic Baseball Tournament hosted by the Tier 3 Old Sox, who have rebranded themselves the Mavericks since the last time we faced off way back in 2008.\u00a0 Drawn into a pool with our Tier 3 hosts and the Tier 4 Cubans, the SweatSox were looking to sweep the round robin and get the coveted bye straight to the semi-finals.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">7am baseball! <a href=\"http:\/\/t.co\/aYQxn5kYPu\">pic.twitter.com\/aYQxn5kYPu<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; SweatSox (@SweatSox) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SweatSox\/status\/609676062457483265?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 13, 2015<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>First up was Team Cuba, who we were originally scheduled to play Friday night at Trillium, but forced to Saturday morning at 7:30am after a storm wiped away both Day 1 tournament games.\u00a0 As if Team Cuba wasn\u2019t already a big enough underdog against the Tier 2 SweatSox, only 7 of the 21-man Cuban roster showed up to the game.\u00a0 Not since the Cornwall River Rats brought 8 to face Mark Dorrington in Game 4 of the 2013 Tier 2 Championships have we faced such an undermanned group of ball players.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sweatsoxbaseball.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/2015mavscornell-e1434671304842.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-1211\" src=\"http:\/\/sweatsoxbaseball.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/2015mavscornell-e1434671304842-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"2015mavscornell\" width=\"563\" height=\"751\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sweatsoxbaseball.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/2015mavscornell-e1434671304842-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/sweatsoxbaseball.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/2015mavscornell-e1434671304842-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/sweatsoxbaseball.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/2015mavscornell-e1434671304842-900x1200.jpg 900w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 563px) 100vw, 563px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>While Cuba waited for their 8th man, the SweatSox took the field behind starter Craig Cornell, who kept Cuba off the board through 4 innings.\u00a0 Offensively, the SweatSox took advantage of the shorthanded Cubans, scoring 12 runs through 3 innings.\u00a0 The team credits this very early burst of energy to the pregame melted mints we had for breakfast.\u00a0 Cornell would lose his bid at a shutout with an unearned run in the 5th, but still goes down in the history books as the holder of the first ever tournament win in SweatSox history.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">SweatSox 12. The Brau w\/ a healthy 8 hours of sleep per man, the Sox w\/ 8 hours of sleep total.<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Orleans Mavericks (@orleansmavs) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/orleansmavs\/status\/610048372771172352?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 14, 2015<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>We had to wait almost 8 years to face the Mavericks again, but it had been even longer since we played the Braumeisters: August 5, 2005 (nearly 10 years) to be exact.\u00a0 FYI- that was <strong>not<\/strong>\u00a0the game that Cory Bond hit 2HR off Bill Beelen, that was on June 28, 2005 in a game the SweatSox won 19-7.<\/p>\n<p>Since we were facing a team of old men, we had no choice but to start our original old man: OMG.\u00a0 Sadly, the NCBL still didn\u2019t get a Groves-McCurdy matchup but it wasn\u2019t our fault this time.\u00a0 Groves threw a complete game shutout, giving up just 4 hits (0BB) in the 5-inning shortened game.\u00a0 Offensively, Craig Cornell and Eric White led the charge with 3 hits &amp; 2 RBI each, en route to a 13-0 SweatSox victory.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">SweatSox 13. Only, it wasn\u2019t a lie, was it.
