{"id":1644,"date":"2016-06-10T01:09:10","date_gmt":"2016-06-10T05:09:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sweatsoxbaseball.com\/blog\/?p=1644"},"modified":"2016-06-10T02:43:17","modified_gmt":"2016-06-10T06:43:17","slug":"the-25kph-eephus-sweatsox-vs-kingston-ponies-recap","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sweatsoxbaseball.com\/blog\/2016\/06\/10\/the-25kph-eephus-sweatsox-vs-kingston-ponies-recap\/","title":{"rendered":"\u201cThe 25kph Eephus\u201d \u2013 SweatSox vs Kingston Ponies Recap"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If there\u2019s one thing worse than getting whipped at home in Ottawa, it\u2019s getting whipped 200km away in a late game on a weeknight, which was supposed to be the case last night when the SweatSox travelled to Kingston to face the Ponies for the first time in NCBL regular season action. &nbsp;In fact, some in Kingston still believe this is the first game of any kind that the SweatSox and Ponies have competed in, but that\u2019s another story for another day.<\/p>\n<p>When the first wave of SweatSox arrived in Kingston about an hour before game-time, we noticed that the entire Ponies team was already on the field taking BP.&nbsp; We also noticed that their BP pitcher was throwing at least 5x harder than SweatSox starter Josh Ramage was going to toss, which meant once the game started \u201cMr. Kingston?\u201d might be able to throw off their timing at the plate for a little bit. &nbsp;And he did.<\/p>\n<p>Let the record show that after 1 complete inning of play the SweatSox led the Ponies 1-0.&nbsp;&nbsp; We had to commemorate this momentous occasion with a picture:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sweatsoxbaseball.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/2016g9score.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1645\" src=\"http:\/\/sweatsoxbaseball.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/2016g9score.jpg\" alt=\"2016g9score\" width=\"730\" height=\"410\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sweatsoxbaseball.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/2016g9score.jpg 730w, https:\/\/sweatsoxbaseball.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/2016g9score-300x168.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 730px) 100vw, 730px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>While the Ponies would tie the game in the 2nd, we\u2019d actually take a 3-1 lead through 3, but the Ponies scored 9 runs over the next 2 innings, including a 2-out grand slam that was as high as it was far, to put the game out of reach.&nbsp; SweatSox lose 10-6 in a rare SweatSox Tier 1 game that was actually much closer than the score would indicate.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">FINAL: Ponies 10. the SweatSox saved approximately 140km of driving by going to Tier 1 and travelling to Kingston just once.<\/li>\n<li>DuFu got a pregame jerk in at an Ottawa ESSO.<\/li>\n<li>Armando Navarro skipped the game because he would\u2019ve had to leave Orleans at like 11am.<\/li>\n<li>Marc Lett attended the game only because Mark Stinson couldn\u2019t.<\/li>\n<li>Dillon Lowry drove all the way to Kingston to play half an inning.<\/li>\n<li>John Groves has Kingston warning track power.<\/li>\n<li>Mark Bond broke a bat hitting whiffles in the pregame, but didn\u2019t break one on his 7th inning HR.<\/li>\n<li>The only thing that prevented 4 SweatSox strikeouts in the 3rd inning was a groundout to the pitcher by I, Shaun Keay.<\/li>\n<li>The fans in the stands clocked Josh Ramage\u2019s \u201ceephus\u201d at 25kph.<\/li>\n<li>Eric White caught a ball in RF while playing LF.<\/li>\n<li>The SweatSox are the first team in NCBL history to hit a HR in all 4 tiers.<\/li>\n<li>For the first time this year, the SweatSox had (and blew) 2 different leads.<\/li>\n<li>If Sexy Boy <em>Clifford<\/em> Garrison really was the Showstopper, Icon, and Main Event, he\u2019d do the HBK&nbsp;pose in the batters box next time.<\/li>\n<li><em>Jeremiah<\/em> Skelhorne-Gross thought I, Shaun Keay, pitched a good game.<\/li>\n<li>We don\u2019t blame the Ponies for not knowing what the first names of the Bond brothers are, or that it was actually Eric White who gave up the grand slam;
