{"id":1727,"date":"2016-07-05T02:31:59","date_gmt":"2016-07-05T06:31:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sweatsoxbaseball.com\/blog\/?p=1727"},"modified":"2016-07-05T02:49:58","modified_gmt":"2016-07-05T06:49:58","slug":"i-wasnt-aol-sweatsox-vs-outlaws-iii-recap","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sweatsoxbaseball.com\/blog\/2016\/07\/05\/i-wasnt-aol-sweatsox-vs-outlaws-iii-recap\/","title":{"rendered":"\u201cI Wasn&#8217;t AOL\u201d \u2013 SweatSox vs Outlaws III Recap"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>My fellow National Capital Baseball Leaguers, you\u2019re in for a real treat.\u00a0 While normally our recaps tell you exactly what happened both on and off the field at a given game, today I\u2019m going to give you a behind the scenes look at how one of our recaps gets made.\u00a0 Let\u2019s get started.<\/p>\n<p>The opening paragraph or two will always be a brief introduction to the two teams, and what you can expect while reading this recap.\u00a0 If I\u2019m particularly lazy or have something to do the rest of the week, I\u2019d keep it very simple and generic, and probably have this part written down before I even go to the game.\u00a0 So for example earlier tonight was the third and final time we played the Outlaws this year, so I\u2019d be sure to mention that somewhere.<\/p>\n<p>If there were a pregame tweet by either team, I\u2019d embed it here.\u00a0 We don\u2019t usually Tweet one out, but for some reason earlier today I had the foresight to post one, looking at it now, hours later, it might\u2019ve seemed out of place at the time, but makes some kind of sense now.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">This is where your typical game day Tweet goes.<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; SweatSox (@SweatSox) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SweatSox\/status\/750102078911942656?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 4, 2016<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 4px;\">Here is where I\u2019d start talking about the actual game.\u00a0 I usually mention whether or not we had an early lead or fell behind early, I\u2019d shoutout a few SweatSox if they did something clutch or great, and then I write how we ended up <del>losing<\/del> winning it, and of course the final score.\u00a0 If I was in a rush, for example if I was heading to the cottage for the week the next day, I might even write a bunch of space filler, and then break the game down in bullet form to make it look like I put some serious effort in.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We opened the scoring in the 2nd.<\/li>\n<li>We went up 3-0 through 3.<\/li>\n<li>We were up 4-1 through 4.<\/li>\n<li>We were up 6-1 through 5.<\/li>\n<li>We were up 7-2 though 6.<\/li>\n<li>We won 7-4.<\/li>\n<li>Dillon Lowry threw a 115 pitch win.<\/li>\n<li>John Groves threw a 7 pitch save.<\/li>\n<li>The defense wasn\u2019t awful.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>After every game the SweatSox Twitter account posts a tweet with the final score, the winning and losing pitchers, with optional hashtags depending on if we got shutout or mercy\u2019d.\u00a0 I\u2019d always embed that one here.\u00a0 It\u2019s real easy, and takes up space, which makes the recap appear longer than it actually is.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">FINAL: SweatSox 7. Outlaws 4.<\/p>\n<p>WP- Lowry<br \/>LP- MaCarthy<br \/>S- Groves<\/p>\n<p>*This is a typical final score Tweet, that goes right here.<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/W1?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#W1<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; SweatSox (@SweatSox) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SweatSox\/status\/750155060496203776?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 5, 2016<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 4px;\">If something happened at the Hyjinx that needs to be mentioned before the final thoughts, I\u2019d put it here in what no doubt would be some clever, well thought out paragraph that\u2019s impossible to write before the game.\u00a0 If I was leaving town tomorrow morning until our next game on Friday, I might even write this whole thing like a Mad Libs before the game, and fill in the blanks, or bullet points, when I got home.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The police were waiting for us in the McCarthy parking lot. We figured it was because we won a game, which is pretty much a crime in Tier 1.<\/li>\n<li>Turned out the police weren\u2019t waiting for us to finish baseball, they were waiting for the basketball players to finish basketballing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Next is the heart and soul of the recaps, the Final Notes\/Thoughts.\u00a0\u00a0 You can\u2019t really fake this one, but if I took enough notes throughout the night, or the team WhatsApp thread was active throughout the day, I can hammer this part out pretty quickly.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 4px;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Final SweatSox vs Outlaws III Notes\/Thoughts<\/strong><\/span>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Outlaws threw the first punch when they brought their cooler of beer to their bench before the game.<\/li>\n<li>#SweatLivesMatter<\/li>\n<li>Mark Bond became the first player since Andrew Hazard (2005) to throw a bat at Cory Bond.\u00a0 Both slightly missed.<\/li>\n<li>Marc Lett did his best Craig Cornell thought-it-was-a-walk bat throw. \u00a0It wasn&#8217;t nearly as graceful.<\/li>\n<li>If you show up an umpire, he will punch you out next pitch no matter what. #mustswing<\/li>\n<li>Mark Bond has a huge fucking COCKroach on his jersey.<\/li>\n<li>You can\u2019t smoke near the dugout.<\/li>\n<li>Ryan Scully caught a foul ball with his neck.<\/li>\n<li>If Jason Klein didn\u2019t strike out, he\u2019d be 4\/4.<\/li>\n<li>Craig Cornell couldn\u2019t see a ground ball for the first time since only Bill Freeman could at Faulkner.<\/li>\n<li>John Groves couldn\u2019t see how many outs there were when he was on base.<\/li>\n<li>Dillon Lowry\u2019s 2 doubles were better than Josh Ramage\u2019s spite double.<\/li>\n<li>We won the 1 must-win game Craig Cornell had circled on his calendar.<\/li>\n<li>\u201cI wasn\u2019t AOL\u201d \u2013Marc Lett<\/li>\n<li>\u201cI don\u2019t drink beer for the taste\u201d \u2013Chris Lidstone<\/li>\n<li>Craig Cornell and Marc Lett finally joined Cory Bond, Kent Johnston, and me (I, Shaun Keay), as the only players in NCBL history to win a game for the same team in all 4 tiers.<\/li>\n<li>Mark Bond and John Groves shared a moment during a game of spin the bottle ?.<\/li>\n<li>There will be a Sharknado 4 viewing party in Armando Navarro\u2019s backyard\u00a0on July 31st.<\/li>\n<li>There will not be a viewing party for &#8220;Sandlot 2 &#8211;
