Earlier this morning in another timeline, 6 of your Stittsville SweatSox boarded a flight from Ottawa to Dallas (via NYC), officially kicking off this year\u2019s version of the annual SweatTrip. Unfortunately, Ross Hughes let one of his many STI\u2019s get away from him, infecting the world, and cancelling our travel plans indefinitely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"828\" height=\"828\" src=\"http:\/\/sweatsoxbaseball.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/img_8631.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2388\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sweatsoxbaseball.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/img_8631.jpg 828w, https:\/\/sweatsoxbaseball.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/img_8631-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sweatsoxbaseball.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/img_8631-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/sweatsoxbaseball.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/img_8631-768x768.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 828px) 100vw, 828px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Originally, the 8-day 7-night 7-game SweatTrip started off in Arlington and finished in St. Louis, with stops in Houston, New Orleans, and Kansas City along the way. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Ottawa to NYC to Dallas (FLY)<\/li><li>Dallas to Houston (PIMP BUS)<\/li><li>Houston to New Orleans to Kansas City (FLY)<\/li><li>Kansas City to St. Louis (AMTRAK)<\/li><li>St. Louis to NYC to Ottawa (FLY)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The MLB games we had tickets for were some of the best matchups we would\u2019ve seen yet, making this cancellation that much worse:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>WED<\/strong>: Texas Rangers vs Toronto Blue Jays<\/li><li><strong>THU<\/strong>: Texas Rangers vs Boston Red Sox<\/li><li><strong>FRI<\/strong>: Houston Astros vs New York Yankees<\/li><li><strong>SAT<\/strong>: Houston Astros vs New York Yankees<\/li><li><strong>SUN<\/strong>: Kansas City Royals vs Los Angeles Dodgers<\/li><li><strong>MON<\/strong>: Kansas City Royals vs California Angels<\/li><li><strong>TUE<\/strong>: St. Louis Cardinals vs Atlanta Braves<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Along with being unable to watch any live baseball, we also will not get a chance to explore the sights and sounds of each city\u2019s culture.&nbsp; Here are just some of the pre-planned activities we had locked-in for #SweatTrip2020:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Tour of AT&amp;T Stadium, drinks with Jerry Jones<\/li><li>The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza<\/li><li>Texas Sports Hall of Fame<\/li><li>Tour of Globe Life Field<\/li><li>Hang out in the Double-A Frisco RoughRiders Lazy River<\/li><li>Space Center Houston, lunch with Mark Bond\u2019s favourite astronaut<\/li><li>Tour of Minute Maid Park<\/li><li>Nolan Ryan Museum in Round Rock<\/li><li>Austin Live Music Crawl<\/li><li>Blues Bars on Bourbon Street<\/li><li>Negro League Baseball Museum<\/li><li>Visit the Former Site of Municipal Stadium<\/li><li>Tour of Kauffman Stadium<\/li><li>See the World\u2019s Largest Baseball<\/li><li>Lunch with Bill James in Lawrence, Kansas<\/li><li>Excursion to the Ozarks<\/li><li>St. Louis Cardinals Hall of Fame Museum<\/li><li>Tour of Busch Stadium<\/li><li>Busch II Infield<\/li><li>The Gateway Arch<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Perhaps most importantly, we need to know the best places to find a drink in each city.&nbsp; After probably somewhere between 68 and 70 hours of research, here\u2019s every place we would\u2019ve stopped in for a pint or two or fourteen at, all of which are Kent Johnston\u2019s Star Rating approved:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Legal Draft Beer Co.<\/li><li>Division Brewing<\/li><li>New Main Brewing Co.<\/li><li>Turning Point Beer<\/li><li>BJ\u2019s Restaurant &amp; Brewhouse<\/li><li>Firestone &amp; Robertson Distilling Co.<\/li><li>Trinity River Distillery<\/li><li>Acre Distilling Co.<\/li><li>BlackEyed Distilling Co.<\/li><li>Saint Arnold Brewing Company<\/li><li>8th Wonder Brewery \/ Distillery<\/li><li>True Anomaly Brewing Company<\/li><li>Platypus Brewing<\/li><li>Yellow Rose Distilling<\/li><li>Grateful Dane Distilling Co.<\/li><li>Boulevard Brewing Company<\/li><li>Rochester Brewing and Roasting Company<\/li><li>Double Shift Brewing Company<\/li><li>Casual Animal Brewing Co.<\/li><li>Border Brewing Company<\/li><li>City Barrel Brewery + Kitchen<\/li><li>Torn Label Brewing Co.<\/li><li>Stockyards Brewing Co.<\/li><li>Mean Mule Distilling Co.<\/li><li>Lifted Spirits &#8211; Kansas City Distilling<\/li><li>Tom\u2019s Town Distilling Co.<\/li><li>Morgan Street Brewing<\/li><li>4 Hands Brewing Co.<\/li><li>Square One Brewing &amp; Distillery<\/li><li>Charleville Brewing Company<\/li><li>Anheuser-Busch St. Louis Brewery<\/li><li>StilL 630 Distillery<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To counter all that beer, we needed to balance it out with the right amount of BBQ. Here are just some of the places we had reservations at:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Hurtado Barbeque<\/li><li>Lockhart Smokehouse Arlington<\/li><li>Jackson Street Barbeque<\/li><li>Moon Tower Inn<\/li><li>Jack Stack Barbeque | Freight House<\/li><li>Arthur Bryant\u2019s Barbeque<\/li><li>Plowboys Barbeque<\/li><li>Joe\u2019s Kansas City Bar-B-Que<\/li><li>Sugarfire Smoke House<\/li><li>Summerhays Grill<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All of that was just the stuff we had pre-planned, who knows what else we would\u2019ve done on the fly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It really would\u2019ve been a great trip. I asked each would-be SweatTripper what they were looking forward to the most:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>CORY<\/strong>: The baseball.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>MARK<\/strong>: All the walking I was going to make everyone do between breweries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>CRAIG<\/strong>: I was really looking forward to seeing some great ballparks, the Negro League Museum, and hanging out with a fine group of men eating barbeque and enjoying some cold beverages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>KENT<\/strong>: Oh boy. Endless BBQ and beer. I was going to eat all of the bbq.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>JOSH<\/strong>: Astros games in Houston. Been a fan of the team as Jeff Bagwell was one of my favourite players growing up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>I, SHAUN KEAY<\/strong>: Nothing specific, beer, baseball and friends in Texas.
