{"id":2895,"date":"2021-09-09T16:20:00","date_gmt":"2021-09-09T20:20:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sweatsoxbaseball.com\/blog\/?p=2895"},"modified":"2021-10-13T15:42:50","modified_gmt":"2021-10-13T19:42:50","slug":"521-6437-rockets-sweep-sweatsox-in-tier-3-quarter-finals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sweatsoxbaseball.com\/blog\/2021\/09\/09\/521-6437-rockets-sweep-sweatsox-in-tier-3-quarter-finals\/","title":{"rendered":"521-6437 | Rockets Sweep SweatSox In Tier 3 Quarter-Finals"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>NEPEAN\/GLOUCESTER<\/strong>&#8211; You and your baseball team were playing against the Rockets the other day\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Last season (2019), the SweatSox swept the Rockets in the Tier 3 Semi-Finals, doing so in just under 48 hours.&nbsp; This year, the Rockets returned the favor and then some, sweeping your Stittsville SweatSox in just under 24.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The SweatSox\/Rockets quarter-final series began 2 days ago at the Sportsplex, and featured a pregame appearance from NCBL Commissioner Bill Beelen to personally deliver the game balls.\u00a0 Bill always delivers the balls to the team he thinks is going to win the series, so it was no surprise that he walked right into the Rockets dugout&#8230; but nobody was there, so he had to come all the way over to ours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Commish also had game balls for the series that was starting right after ours (Braves vs Outlaws), and Billy needed someone \u201cresponsible\u201d on our side to give the pearly whites to, so imagine my shock when he purposefully ignored me (Shaun Keay), his Tier 3 Social Media Committee Representative, and handed them to his precious NCBL Secretary.&nbsp; What have I ever done to you Bill?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><a href=\"http:\/\/sweatsoxbaseball.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/IMG_3316.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"http:\/\/sweatsoxbaseball.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/IMG_3316-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2929\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sweatsoxbaseball.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/IMG_3316-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/sweatsoxbaseball.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/IMG_3316-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sweatsoxbaseball.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/IMG_3316-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/sweatsoxbaseball.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/IMG_3316-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/sweatsoxbaseball.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/IMG_3316-850x638.jpg 850w, https:\/\/sweatsoxbaseball.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/IMG_3316.jpg 1656w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Most of the SweatSox were fired up for Game 1, thanks to another inspirational pregame speech from team Authority Cory Bond.&nbsp; I wasn\u2019t fooled by it; speeches don\u2019t really get to me (Shaun Keay).&nbsp; If Cory really wanted to fire me up, get me hard, make it so I don\u2019t commit a couple of questionable \u201cerrors\u201d on D, he should\u2019ve tricked me into playing hard out of spite; spite\u2019s my jam.&nbsp; And if he wanted to fire Jaspreet Sanghra up, he should\u2019ve given him some cocaine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed aligncenter is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"jetpack-video-wrapper\"><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/fQPe4RigYmg?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-US&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Despite a rather lackluster season, Josh Ramage got the surprise start for the SweatSox in Game 1.&nbsp; Something had been a little off with our Arsonist all season, but after he got power slammed (by me) then tea-bagged (technically also by me) on the 14th green at Irish Hills on Monday, we\u2019re confident he\u2019ll have no worries, for the rest of his days. Personally, I would\u2019ve started GLE, our surefire Pitcher of the Year, even though he threw an inning the night before; but what do I know. ??\u200d\u2642\ufe0f<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><a href=\"http:\/\/sweatsoxbaseball.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/IMG_3309.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"828\" height=\"852\" src=\"http:\/\/sweatsoxbaseball.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/IMG_3309.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2934\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sweatsoxbaseball.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/IMG_3309.jpg 828w, https:\/\/sweatsoxbaseball.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/IMG_3309-292x300.jpg 292w, https:\/\/sweatsoxbaseball.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/IMG_3309-768x790.jpg 768w, https:\/\/sweatsoxbaseball.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/IMG_3309-300x309.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 828px) 100vw, 828px\" \/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Despite peppering the Rockets with rainbow &amp; lollipop pitches in Game 1, the \u201cMissiles\u201d had seemingly little issue adapting to the power pitching of starter Mark Bond and reliever Eric White, scoring at least 1 run in each of their 5 innings pitched, for a grand total of 8.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The SweatSox offense was led by the Brothers Bond who combined for 4 of our 7 total hits, and 2 of our 3 total runs scored. Craig Cornell made an impression on this game as well, knocking both Bond\u2019s in on a double to right-center in his first at bat, but then went down looking and had a few choice words for the umpire in <em>and<\/em> after his final AB. I\u2019ve known Craig a long time, and let me go on the record and let all current and future umpires know that if Craig doesn\u2019t swing at a pitch, it\u2019s a ball, 100% of the time. Remember who signs your cheques folks. ?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">John Groves closed the game (and the season) for the SweatSox, pitching the final 2 innings while facing the minimum (1H, DP), in what will probably be his final NCBL appearance ever.\u00a0 After the game, OMG voluntarily turned in his jersey, and later this week he\u2019s flying to Central America, unsure if he\u2019ll ever be allowed to return, or play if he does. Lil\u2019 Kicks even invited a few Dukes to our <s>circle<\/s> random shape, so Cory could start recruiting for next season.\u00a0 Unsurprisingly, it looks like he closed every deal, and we\u2019ll have Stef Leclair, Louis Gadbois, and Ryan Stewart joining us next season, which is perfectly clean &amp; legal since they\u2019re all coming up from Tier 4, and not down from Tier 2. No Asterisks here, although Dave Steffler is always welcome to join us too..<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Main Event of the night was Game 1 of Misfits (#3) vs Lumberjacks (#2), where naturally the Misfits were the home team.\u00a0 We watched helplessly as the Lumberjacks did everything they could to hold onto an early lead against the Misfits, but that\u2019s a task no true Tier 3 team could hope to accomplish.\u00a0 The Misfits won the game, will undoubtedly win the series, and I\u2019m calling it right now: Misfits over the Rockets in 4 in the Finals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Elsewhere at Trillium, Cory Bond was busy conducting his Apres Season exit interviews with each of the SweatSox. I\u2019m told nothing shocking came from these one-on-ones: Josh Ramage wants everyone cut, Craig Cornell wants out of the outfield, Eric White wants a few extra bodies on the team next year so he has access to a few extra body parts if needed, Ross Hughes wants to golf more, Mark Bond wants less roofs, and Kent Johnston wants the 2022 season cancelled because according to his homemade radar:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image is-style-default\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><a class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The SweatSox considered performing the \u201cHaka Dance\u201d before Game 1, but we decided to save that for the finals instead<\/li><li>Rocket John Carbonette fixed the strike zone for everyone after he struck out looking in Game 1 at arguably the most outside strike in the history of baseball, and had a few choice words for the umpire<\/li><li>Eric White has not taught Jaspreet Sanghra bunting yet<\/li><li>Cory Bond never delays<\/li><li>Craig Cornell wore his lucky Cornell University t-shirt under his jersey<\/li><li>Chris Lidstone forgot his jersey at home<\/li><li>Mike Bayley is a double fist hammerer<\/li><li>Craig Cornell has now batted in 7 different spots in the batting order so far this year: 5, 2, 1, 6, 4, 3, and most recently 7<\/li><li>The SweatSox defense collapsed just after Mrs. Chris left the game (coincidence?)<\/li><li>Jaspreet Sanghra will swing at a 3-0 pitch if he wants to, ok?<\/li><li>Per Josh Ramage, the Ramage Protocol was not followed in RF<\/li><li>Craig Cornell forgot his glove at the field<\/li><li>Marc Lett knows actual science<\/li><li>The \u201cSweat Trough\u201d got filled<\/li><li>Craig Cornell has trouble with fly balls at twilight, and flying beer cans at night<\/li><li>If there ever was a SweatSox Survivor, Cory Bond would host, Marc Lett would win, and Eric White would be voted off first<\/li><li>The
