When the team needs a bunt, I drop one down perfectly. When the team needs a game winning RBI, I win us the game. And when the team needs me to play first with the sun directly in my face, IN MY FACEEEEE, I make all the plays. What more can I do for you? Acknowledge me!

And now, in my own words (entirely), a breakdown of Wednesday night’s SweatSox vs Crusaders match-up:

JUST SOUTH OF NORTHGATE– In a dramatic showdown on Wednesday, the SweatSox clashed with our formidable opponents, the Crusaders, in a battle that left fans on the edge of their seats. Despite an early setback, where we found ourselves trailing 2-1 in the 3rd inning, the SweatSox unleashed a remarkable comeback, eventually triumphing over the Crusaders with an impressive 11-4 victory.

Leading the charge on offense was the unstoppable Joshua Ramage, who seemed to have brought his trusty doubles bat to the game. With an impressive line of 2-4, including 2 doubles, an RBI, and a run scored, he seemed to defy the laws of physics with his precision hits. Adding to the offensive onslaught, Phil Leduc hammered an RBI double, while Trevor Williams showcased his lightning speed with an electrifying RBI triple.

But it was I, Shaun Keay who stole the spotlight with my heroic performance, driving in 2 pivotal runs, including yet another game-winner. And just to make things interesting, I almost sacrificed myself with a bunt, but thanks to the graciousness of Larry Pawelek, I managed to evade that fate. To everyone’s amazement, I, Shaun Keay, then defied all odds, dashing from 2nd base to home plate on an Eric White single up the middle, leaving spectators in awe of my lightning-fast speed and sliding skills.

Meanwhile, on the pitching mound, Dave Rotari displayed mastery and poise as the SweatSox’s starter. He silenced the Crusaders’ bats, allowing a mere 5 hits, 1 earned run, and a walk over 5 strong innings. With 3 strikeouts to his name, Rotari improved his 2023 record to a solid .500 at 2-2, cementing his status as a force to be reckoned with.

In the outfield, Trevor Williams showcased his acrobatic skills from center field, treating the crowd to a couple mind-blowing catches. His performance was so remarkable that it made everyone conveniently forget about longtime SweatSox center fielder turned golfer Kent Johnston, but let’s be honest, having a stud like Mike Pignat in right field certainly makes center field a breeze. Let’s not overlook the fine efforts of Eric White, who held down the fort at shortstop admirably.

Lastly, let’s raise 90% of our glasses to Larry Pawelek, the latest SweatSox to join the NCBL’s prestigious 300-hit club after a 3rd inning single to left. Legend has it he just made it to first base, securing this milestone hit in the record books. Leisurely Sweet Larry, we applaud your dedication to turning every hit into a comfortable stroll. Congratulations.

In conclusion, the SweatSox exhibited unwavering determination, skill, and a touch of humor in our spectacular triumph over the Crusaders. We fought tooth and nail against our formidable adversaries, leaving spectators spellbound by our prowess. Here’s to many more thrilling and comedic encounters between our beloved SweatSox and the worthy Crusaders!

Close enough…

SweatSox nearly forget how to play baseball after 14-day smoke/rain/holiday break, but some strong pitching, timely hitting, and very questionable defense ultimately got the job done.

SweatSox 11. The top of the first inning witnessed a bold, yet ill-fated attempt by Eric to steal home, the operative word being “attempt.” It was a valiant effort that ended in disappointment. Adding to his repertoire of blunders, Eric managed to strike out swinging at a ball that would have sailed a good three feet over the head of Josh Ramage if he were up there. But it didn’t stop there. In a twist of fate, Eric also had a hand in giving up Dave Rotari’s only (inherited) earned run when he took the mound in relief. For his overall contribution, with a special emphasis on the daring attempted steal, Eric White unquestionably earned the title of our “I Fucked Up” award winner once again.

It wasn’t all bad for our 3x IFU champion, Eric recorded an RBI double in the 7th inning to secure our victory, that some pundits are calling controversial.
