Trailing 5-0 early against the tier’s championship favorites, the SweatSox mounted an improbable rally, scoring seven unanswered runs over the final five innings to secure their seventh win of the season.

The Padres jumped on SweatSox starter Josh Ramage early, capitalizing on a mix of sharp hitting and defensive miscues to take a commanding 5-0 lead by the second inning. But Ramage settled down, shutting out the Padres for the remainder of his six-inning complete game. Despite allowing eight hits, three walks, and recording just one strikeout, Ramage baffled hitters with his signature “Daisy Dukes”, earning him his fourth win of the season.

Fun Fact: Both of the Padres’ losses this season have come at the hands of pitchers named “Josh.”

The SweatSox offense came alive in the fourth inning, scoring three runs to cut the deficit. In the pivotal sixth, Andrew Hierlihy launched a towering two-run home run off Padres reliever Connor Colvin, giving the SweatSox their first lead of the game at 7-5. The shot proved to be the game-winner, cementing Hierlihy as the night’s offensive hero.

Padres starter “Large” Micheal Howard-Smith was dominant early, racking up 10 strikeouts over five innings while issuing five walks. However, the SweatSox capitalized on his high pitch count and long warmups between innings, forcing him out of the game before the decisive sixth inning.

Drama unfolded in the bottom of the seventh when the umpires called the game at the predetermined 11:00pm time limit, even though the lights were still on. The Padres had reclaimed the lead in the top half of the seventh, but with the bases loaded the SweatSox seemed poised to deliver a walk-off moment in the bottom. Instead, the game ended abruptly, the inning was declared void due to the drop-dead rule, and the SweatSox walked away 7-5 winners, we think…

Padres management was visibly upset and according to sources may have filed a protest regarding the result. Stay tuned for more details.

Left fielder Jaspreet Sanghra earned Defensive Player of the Game honors, making six putouts—a possible franchise record for single-game outfield performance. Meanwhile, right fielder Steve Brown dodged both fly balls and a persistent pile of dog poop in his corner of the field, earning him the coveted “Sweatiest Player of the Game” distinction.

The SweatSox, now 7-5, will look to keep their momentum rolling when they face the Barons on Friday at Kinsmen. First pitch is scheduled for 6:10 p.m.

THIS JUST IN: The Padres’ Protest against the game’s abrupt ending was swiftly denied by the NCBL, marking one of the fastest rulings in league history. It’s a lesson for everyone: when managers agree before the game to no new inning after 10:45, drop dead at 11, it really means no new inning after 10:45 and we drop dead at 11. If you want to play until the lights go out, you’ve got to say so during that meeting and hope the other team and the umps agree.

Final SweatSox vs Padres Notes/Thoughts:

Liddy had rock dogs in his car for weeks, Cop now has mosquitoes stuck in his.

Eric stops reading the starting lineup after the 2nd line, whether he’s in one of those two spots or not.

Fucking Kent.

Removing Mark Bond is always a good move.

This was Craig Cornell’s 369th NCBL game played, but his 1st with his socks pulled up to his knees.

Larry stole a base!?!

Better to be hurting after a TBD than swinging 3-0.

If a team lodges a protest in the parking lot after the game, and not on the field where and when you’re supposed to do it, does it make a sound?

Team mainstay I, Shaun Keay was absent from the lineup as I prepare for surgery later today.

The team sends me their best wishes for a speedy recovery.

GAMEDAY!

Your Nepean Padres are hungover and are taking on the @SweatSox this evening in an 8:30 battle at the Gate.

We really miss the Sox’s blog posts…but maybe we’ll get a fun AI photo instead…#comraderie#chucks?
