With 69 bums in seats\u2014the highest attendance of the year\u2014the scene was set for a historic matchup between the long-tenured SweatSox (est. 1981, NCBL OG\u2019s) and the young, eager Blueberry Bulldogs, recently promoted from the <em>North Ottawa Baseball League Organization<\/em> (aka NOBLO) ranks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It didn\u2019t take long for the SweatSox to establish dominance. After going up 5-goose in the top of the 1st inning, highlighted by a clutch 2-run double from <strong>Phil Leduc<\/strong> in front of his old \u201cunnamed\u201d squad, they never looked back. That early jolt gave starter <strong>Eric White<\/strong> all the runway he needed to settle in and carve up the Bulldog lineup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI came to the field with a printed-out plan in a yellow duotang,\u201d said Leduc postgame. \u201cAll I had to do was execute. Mission accomplished.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cSettle down\u201d -Trevor Williams<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">White, making his fourth start of the year, went the distance in the five-inning tilt, surrendering 4 runs on 9 hits with 6 strikeouts and a lone walk. The crafty righty improved to 3-1 on the season, despite working from the awkward, spike-less movable mound that has become Parc Allen\u2019s sloppy signature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI\u2019ve officially given my <strong>love<\/strong> to the SweatSox this season\u2014my time, my arm, my heart\u2014and it\u2019s finally starting to show up in the win column,\u201d said White. \u201cWhen the boys give you five runs in the first, all you\u2019ve gotta do is go out there and shove. And that\u2019s what I did.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cEric is unbelievable\u201d -Trevor Williams<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The offensive sparkplug of the night was none other than player\/manager <strong>Cory Bond<\/strong>, who stepped in after <strong>Shaun Keay<\/strong> was scratched from the lineup due to fatigue sustained from a \u201ctuggie on a tube,\u201d which he reportedly ranked above his infamous \u201cWasaga Beach squeezer.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI\u2019ll always find a way to contribute,\u201d said Bond, who led the Sox with 2 doubles and 3 runs scored. \u201cI\u2019ll always go where I\u2019m needed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cCory is unbelievable\u201d -Trevor Williams<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Larry Pawelek<\/strong> notched a team-high 3* hits, while <strong>Mike Pignat<\/strong>, <strong>Josh Ramage<\/strong>, <strong>Craig Cornell<\/strong>, and <strong>Trevor Williams<\/strong> each added two knocks in the team\u2019s highest-scoring game of the season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cLarry is unbelievable\u201d -Trevor Williams<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the defensive side, <strong>Nick Henderson<\/strong> earned Player of the Game honors for his steady presence at shortstop, recording three putouts and an assist, including an early inning ending, rally-killing, 6-3 DP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI always go till I can\u2019t go no more,\u201d said Henderson after the game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cNick is unbelievable\u201d -Trevor Williams<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The same couldn\u2019t quite be said for <strong>Craig Cornell<\/strong>, who was charged with a key error at 3rd in his only defensive attempt that easily could\u2019ve cost us our 10-run lead at the time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI was gassed, man. I ran like 270 feet from 1st to home in the first inning,\u201d said Cornell. \u201cBut you can never let them know you\u2019re hurt.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cSettle down\u201d -Trevor Williams<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Blueberry Bulldogs showed flashes of potential, with <strong>Cedric Morrissette<\/strong> and <strong>Willem Nadon<\/strong> each recording a pair of hits. Starter <strong>Philippe \u201c2-Balk\u201d Rollin<\/strong> took the loss after giving up 10 runs in 2+ innings of work. One of the <s>four<\/s> two <s>Apeldoorns<\/s> <strong>C. Blake\u2019s<\/strong> in the Bulldogs lineup tossed the final three frames and held the fort respectably, giving up just 3 earned, and caught a one-out bases loaded liner that could\u2019ve been a quadruple play in some other 4-out baseball universe. Here, it was just a double play.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Despite the blowout, the young Blueberry Bulldogs were upbeat, brimming with positivity\u2014a trait not appreciated by all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThey need to give their balls a tug and come back much stronger than that,\u201d said veteran SweatSox slugger <strong>Josh Ramage<\/strong>, who had 2 hits and 1 run of his own. \u201cShow me someone who can handle losing and I\u2019ll show you a loser. You gotta love winning. Hate losing. If I was on this Blueberry Bulldogs team, I\u2019d wanna kill myself. No really\u2014I\u2019d lie in bed at night thinking, \u2018Maybe I shouldn\u2019t wake up,\u2019 because at least then, I wouldn\u2019t be a fucking loser.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cSettle down\u201d -Trevor Williams<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When asked about the Blueberry Bulldogs\u2019 future, manager <strong>Chad Lambert<\/strong> kept it simple: \u201cNo excuses. This team will never lose again.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Unfortunately, several SweatSox regulars missed the Aylmer adventure. The team sends its best wishes to the Teenage Mutant Injured Turtles: <strong>Mark Bond<\/strong>, <strong>Andrew Hierlihy<\/strong>, <strong>Kent Johnston<\/strong>, and <strong>Geoff Nolan<\/strong>\u2014each is expected to be sidelined 4 to 6.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cTurtles are unbelievable\u201d -Trevor Williams<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAre they injured, or are they hurt?\u201d mused Ramage, clearly questioning their commitment to the grind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>NEXT UP:<\/strong> The SweatSox (now 4-4) head back to the sketchy \u201cdiamond\u201d at Southgate this Wednesday night for an Opening Day rematch against the Barons.
