I’m told players from all 4 tiers reached out to offer their services for the weekend, but we decided we really, really needed the extra practice, so this was strictly a SweatSox-only team.

Our first game of the tournament was on Friday, July 11th, when we took on the Panthers at the Sportsplex. Understandably, the Panthers were hoping we’d start John “OM” Groves and his 8.82ERA in our opener; but as Phil Taylor, Bob McCurdy, and the rest of the defunct Gryphons will tell you: if you want OMG, you 100% absolutely do NOT get OMG.

The “weekend of positives” started almost immediately, when for the first time in 8 games we didn’t give up a run in the 1st; however the “season of no luck and no breaks” reappeared when a 2nd inning phantom balk call set the tone for back-to-back 3-run Panther innings. While those runs would hold up as the winners, we did make things interesting in the 5th when we scored 3 runs, chasing the Panther starter from the game. sacrificing (or so we thought) the infamous anti-award Odlid, but the Panthers answered by performing CPR on it, bringing it back to life, then throwing it onto the field of play, setting the SweatSox
