On behalf of the SweatSox, I’d like to offer my most sincerest congratulations to Ross Hughes, who this past Wednesday finally asked his better half the big question we know he’s been waiting all winter to ask…
Before we get to the punchline, let’s learn a bit more about “The Merchandise”. We first met Ross back in 2010, when we decided to qualify some random friend of Travis with 5 games left to go in the season. Ross made the most of the opportunity, throwing a complete game 3 hit win vs the Mudd in one of those appearances. That was his one and only win as a SweatSox pitcher. Ross is a lifetime .236 hitter, and in 62 games has more sacrifice bunts (9) than he does RBI’s (7). Ross is a great teammate, and even better dude, and legend has it he’s one of the most well endowed men in the Western hemisphere.
We met Bridget a couple years ago when Ross unexpectedly brought a +1 to the 2012 NCBL Banquet. She too made the most of her opportunity: exactly one year later she was accepting the Tier 2 Championship trophy on behalf of the SweatSox from Commissioner Beelen at the 2013 Banquet.
Which brings us to this past Wednesday, when Ross took advantage of the warm weather and popped the question. I’m told he got down on one knee, to grab a couple brew’s from the bottom shelf of his fridge, then asked: “Would you like to go sit outside and have a beer?”
Of course Bridget said yes, and they spent the afternoon in lawn chairs engaged in Hyjinx-like activities.
*Note to NCBL Head Umpire Jean Lazure: Ross and Bridget are NOT actually engaged to be married. They were simply enjoying each other’s company on a beautiful Wednesday afternoon.
