Riding the momentum from defeating the Kingston Ponies at the Brewer tournament, the SweatSox returned to Tier 2 regular season action last Wednesday to face the Winchester Sox in our annual Ottawa matchup.

The game may have been 8 innings, we may only have had 3 hits, and Cory Bond may have been subbed out for Eric White and subbed back in for Kent Johnston, but we managed to pull out a 5-4 victory over the Tier 1 bound Sox from North Dundas.

SweatSox 5. Winchester 4. Final (8 innings).

Après Brewer Tournament Broment #1: Mark Bond and Chris Lidstone dine in style.

Après Brewer Tournament Broment #2: No window can keep Mark Stinson and I, Shaun Keay, apart.

Final SweatSox vs Winchester Notes/Thoughts:

  • Even with measuring tape, the SweatSox can’t put the bases in properly
  • The Authority brilliantly started Josh Ramage on 3 days rest over Eric White on 5 days rest
  • When an umpire predicts he’s going to toss someone, one way or another someone’s getting tossed
  • The Winchester catcher left the game with a finger injury that may or may not have involved slicing lemons at work the Saturday before
  • Mindy came; and she showed up at the game too!
  • Mindy was cold
  • Mindy had to get up early the next day
  • Mindy didn’t come to the bar
  • The Hunt Club Royal Oak now has bouncers
  • If anyone from the Oak asks, the SweatSox double as an OSSC team
  • The Online SweatSox SweatShop is “coming soon”

Last Friday, the SweatSox and Expos game scheduled for Trillium was rained out.  Sadly, this meant no Après Baseball Hot Tub Party at Army’s.

After a rare weekend off, the SweatSox partook in some R&R before facing the Ottawa Mudd this past Monday night at the Sportsplex.  Even more rare than a weekend off was a Mark Dorrington sighting at the field, which meant we had to get him on the mound right away to get him qualified 3 games quicker for the playoffs (if we don’t blow it).

We told Dorrington that he had to throw to at least 1 batter, and whatever else he could give us was a bonus.  Before turning the ball over to Eric White, OMS had thrown 5 innings giving up just 2 hits, 0 earned runs, with 11 strikeouts; and for old times sake helped himself out offensively with a solo shot to deep left.  “Sweetheart” closed it out with 2 scoreless innings for his 2nd save of the season.

SweatSox 8. Mudd 2. Final.

Final SweatSox vs Mudd Notes/Thoughts:

  • Brian Merkel doesn’t like when I, Shaun Keay, mail it in
  • Mark Dorrington crushes hanging knuckles
  • Craig Cornell doesn’t believe Josh Ramage can hit a double that’s not a ground rule
  • NCBL rules (like DH for anyone, or what constitutes a game played) always supersedes MLB ones
  • The only innovative thing the Dukes have ever done is their post game interviews. We may have to steal it.
  • The Sportsplex parking lot lights go off at 11:30pm now
  • Armando Navarro finally explained what #12 represents
  • Marc Lett is more of a #10 than #27
  • Ross Hughes as #00 kind of makes sense
  • Robert “Tool” Latulippe is banned from Summerhays, except on Tuesday’s
  • Can anyone confirm Daren Keating made it home from the bar?
  • Bukkake is not pronounced boo-cake
  • You don’t need Ashley Madison when you have compromise

Finally, the SweatSox have been waiting months, if not years, possibly even decades, for the perfect question to ask in our inaugural SweatSite poll.  Today is absolutely that day, so we ask:
