Cornwall River Rats Win Tier 2 Championship

KANATA– Earlier tonight, the Cornwall River Rats completed their 3-game sweep of the Metcalfe Giants in the Tier 2 Finals at Kinsmen.

NCBL Secretary Cory Bond, who also happens to be the SweatSox Authority, was on-site to live Tweet the game. Here’s how he saw it (with a little help from me, Shaun Keay):

Cornwall won Game 1 of the Tier 2 FINALS last Thursday, when they beat the Giants 6-1 at the Sportsplex.

On Sunday, the Giants declined their invite to visit the great city of Cornwall for Game 2, opting instead for the default loss.

The River Rats are looking for their 2nd Tier 2 Championship (2017), while the Giants/Mudd franchise is looking for their 3rd (2002, 2016).

Both of these teams dropped down from Tier 1 last season, so whoever wins it all will definitely have a big *️⃣ next to their title.

It’s nothing personal, so will the @beausmisfits and/or @orleansmavs too for also dropping down a tier.

Only 2 umpires here though, I thought there was supposed to be 3? Make sure we don’t get charged for that @CCornell17.

So there you have it, the Cornwall River Rats are now the 2x Tier 2 Champions. They’re on a 6 game winning streak in the Tier 2 Finals, sweeping the Gatineau Marc Sports in 2017 (or is it Marc Sports Gatineau, either way it’s one of the worst team names in NCBL history), and then the Metcalfe Giants just now in 2021. Before that, in 2013, Cornwall lost 3 straight, to the SweatSox, after they won the first 2, and then we walked them off on a Marc Lett grand slam in Game 5. Never forget.

Once again, Congratulations to the River Rats. It’ll be more impressive if you can do it against the Battalion in your own Tier next year though 🙂
