KANATA– Earlier tonight, Beau’s Misfits did what everyone knew they were going to do the moment they temporarily dropped down to Tier 3 last offseason, they won the Tier 3 Championship.
The Tier 3 RainSoft Ottawa Rockets defied the odds by pushing this series to a 4th game, but in the end they were no match for the Tier 2 Misfits (featuring some Tier 1 studs), that won Games 1, 2, and 4 by 8, 11, and 10 runs respectively. The 9.6 run average margin of victory has to be some kind of record.
Once again, wannabe SweatSox reporter Cory Bond was on-site to live Tweet the game. Here’s how he saw it (with a little help in the graphics department from me, Shaun Keay):
The SweatSox would like to congratulate the Misfits on winning their 2nd Championship, and we wish them the best of luck in Tier 1, 2, or 4 next year (just please get out of 3).
The SweatSox would also like to congratulate the Rockets on a great playoff run, we’re sorry we couldn’t get you more ready to face these juggernauts, but in the end you guys were the best “Tier 3” team this year. Heads high.
I’m also hearing that this may have been NCBL Legend Mike Bayley’s actual, official, for real, no take-backs, final game in a Rockets uniform. Old Man Bayley’s arm has fallen off like 14 different times, and will be retiring to a life of full-time U15 coaching next year. If this is indeed the end, congratulations on a great NCBL career. Maybe the SweatSox can work out some kind of 1-day contract and we can retire you the right way, in a SweatSox uniform, against the Rockets…
