The 2023 NCBL Kick-off Meeting took place yesterday afternoon at the Sportsplex, and one of the big items discussed was who would succeed Colleen “The Manager” Embury as Tier 3 President, now that Winchester has been promoted to Tier 2.
Each Tier 3 team was tasked with submitting a presidential candidate for consideration. The nominees were:
Josh Primeau, Bytown Barons
Josh Campbell, Ottawa-West Crusaders
Gregorio Cobas Magia, Los Latinos
Brett Stott, Ottawa Lumberjacks
Brett Jelley, Nepean Padres
Tom Toll, Trillium Rockets
Kent Johnston, Stittsville SweatSox
The two Josh’s cancelled each other out, as did the two Brett’s. Our Kent Johnston was then eliminated from consideration because the league didn’t want three members of the SweatSox (especially all 3 Powers) sitting on the Executive, two is sketchy enough.
So it all came down to Gregorio of the Latinos, who pledged to Bring Sexy Back, and Thomas of the Rockets, who promised to Make Tier 3 Great Again. After a heartwarming plea from Toll Booth Tommy about how this was a lifelong dream, and how he’s always wanted to give back to the league that he’s taken so much from over the years, the league voted unanimously in favour of a Tom Toll presidency.
Congratulations President Toll. May your reign be long and prosperous.
Update (May 5th): Per the NCBL By-Laws, a routine background and security check must be done on new members of the Executive within 69 hours of an election. President Toll’s report came back Prognosis: Negative, when earlier incidents from his past, including but not limited to the questionable purchase of a Cadillac (embezzlement?), the circumstances under which he acquired a marble rye, and something he did with or to an old bag, came to light. A full investigation took place, and President Toll was impeached after just 5 days on the job.
In a league-wide email, Commissioner Beelen just announced that Gregorio Cobas Magia of Los Latinos was acclaimed the new Tier 3 El Presidente.
