It Was The Ricochet That Got Me | SweatSox vs Los Latinos III RECAP

Posted on June 18, 2023June 18, 2023

It’s fine if you one-up me, it’s even funnier if you can cleverly two-up me, just as long as you don’t ever forget to Acknowledge me!

And now, in my own words (without a shadow of a doubt), a breakdown of Friday night’s SweatSox vs Los Latinos matchup:

THE LEX– In a Friday night showdown between the SweatSox and Los Latinos, the latter emerged victorious, leaving the SweatSox to lick our wounds with a disappointing 10-4 defeat. Los Latinos asserted their dominance by unleashing an unstoppable offensive surge, scoring 5 runs in the 3rd inning to secure a lead that the SweatSox could never catch up to. To add insult to injury, just as the SweatSox began mounting a late rally in the bottom of the 7th inning, with 2 runs scored and the tying run on deck, the game was called due to the drop dead time limit. Talk about a cruel twist of fate for the SweatSox, whose record now stands at 6-3 on the year.

Latinos extended their winning streak to 7 games. Felipao Morales was clutch at the plate with ducks on the pond, driving in four on three hits to lead Latinos past SweatSox 10-4.

Carpio took his first NCBL win (6IP, 3ER, 5K).

Latinos racked a total of 13 hits.

Throughout the game, the SweatSox bats were silenced like a library on a Sunday afternoon, mustering a paltry 6 hits in total. Mike Pignat emerged as a lone bright spot, delivering a deep double to right field, drawing 2 walks, and crossing the plate twice. Meanwhile, Larry Pawelek managed to contribute one hit along with a team high 3 RBI’s. Though commendable, their efforts were not nearly enough to turn the tides in our favor.

On the defensive side, the SweatSox displayed questionable prowess at times, but punctuated by a few standout moments. Second baseman Nick Henderson made his presence felt by being involved in an impressive 6 of the 18 defensive outs, tallying 4 assists and 2 putouts. Meanwhile, Mike Pignat showcased his skills in right field, expertly fielding all 3 fly balls sent his way, including a pair in the first inning. Mr. Piggy also confirmed his old adage, nobody runs on him twice, because they either scored the first time or saw his arm and are definitely going the next time; but not twice.

Dave Rotari took the mound for his third start of the season, enduring a challenging 4 innings before handing the ball over to the bullpen for some much-needed work. Despite facing adversity from both hard luck defense and the SweatSox’s offensive struggles, Rotari managed to limit the damage, conceding just 4 earned runs on 5 hits with a solitary walk. His resilience on the mound served as a bright spot in an otherwise bleak outing for the SweatSox.

Finally, it was during this game that something unusual occurred—a moment that brought the benches of both teams together, not for a brawl, but for a friendly conversation about swung bats and catchers. The topic of discussion emphasized the inherent incompatibility of the two and reinforced the notion that they should never mix. This marked the first time the SweatSox and Los Latinos had come together in such a manner since they united to remove that homeless sex structure from Trillium’s right field a season or two ago.

Ultimately, the SweatSox found ourselves on the receiving end of a humbling defeat at the hands of the superior Los Latinos. With our record now tarnished at 6-3 on the year, the SweatSox must reevaluate our strategies and hope for a miraculous turnaround if we wish to redeem ourselves.

Close enough…

SweatSox can’t slow down the #streakin Los Latinos, falling 10-4 in 6 innings.

We had a rally going in the bottom of the 7th and got the tying run on deck, but then we all dropped dead ⚰️.

HE FINALLY MESSED UP: In a comical turn of events, Steve Brown of the SweatSox has emerged as the deserving winner of the coveted “I Fucked Up” Award. Steve’s performance at the plate was less than stellar, going 0-for-3 with 2 strikeouts, but his blunder in the field truly stole the show. As a butterfly fluttered through center field, Steve couldn’t resist the distraction and found himself chasing after it instead of focusing on the fly ball that was heading straight towards him. Classic Steve.

While Steve took home the top honors, there were some notable contenders for the award. Marc Lett almost achieved the feat by attempting to throw a runner out at first but accidentally bounced the ball off his own shoe. Talk about an unfortunate spike. Eric White, on the other hand, managed to hit his own face with the ball instead of putting it in play. It seems like the SweatSox had quite the eventful game filled with memorable blunders.

However, it’s not all doom and gloom for Steve Brown. Despite his on-field mishaps, he redeemed himself off the field. As the ultimate utility man, he fulfilled his promise and brought the much-needed beer for the team. Not only that, but he also went the extra mile by delivering three delicious pizzas for the team to devour. And to everyone’s delight, they were a refreshing change from the usual Dominos pies. Kudos to Steve for providing such a delightful treat. Even Josh Ramage, known for his discerning taste, was impressed.

Final SweatSox vs Los Latinos Notes/Thoughts:

  • Marc Lett is a pool man, not a poll man.
  • Darth Cornell made his debut last night.
  • Marc Lett’s uniform was the cleanest it’s been in years.
  • When Larry Pawelek said he’d give his jersey to Nick Henderson, we just assumed Larry was going to play the game shirtless. Happily, we were wrong.
  • Theoretically, would umpires be allowed to gamble on NCBL ejections?
  • When the SweatSox took the field in the first inning, there was over 100 years of NCBL experience left on the bench (Me, Craig, Cory, Kent, Larry).  Then Bill showed up to give us some more game balls, and that number shot up to 200.
  • Some teams are a little sloppy with their league fee payments. I’m not allowed to say who though.
  • Louis Gadbois showed up to our game to clarify that he prefers his “inspirational poopy time accident” be referred to as the “Heritage Incident”.  Unfortunately, he did not inspire us to win this game.
  • Some people call him Louis, some people call him Gadbois, and some people call him Daddy.
  • Never tell little girls you want to meet them in the parking lot afterwards.
  • Max Keeping’s first name is Winston.
  • Sometimes, you just get beat.
  • Not tall not short, not big not small, is one of the all-time great descriptions.
  • There’s nothing like some fresh cum to open up the pores.
  • If Justine White wants more face-time with Eric White, she should become a pitcher.
  • But wait, there’s always more.
  • There are 2 solutions to Phil Leduc’s current voice situation: tea with lemon, or just shutting the fuck up.
  • Mensa invented the Elephant game.
  • The SweatSox might’ve lost the game, but the Latinos lost more coolant.
  • Can Larry Pawelek have an off-speed if it’s all the same speed?
  • Nobody tell Trevor Williams, but Mike Pignat stepped away from the circle to go put his hoodie on. Bitch.
  • Dave Rotari talks gibberish in his sleep. Josh Ramage talks about how much the SweatSox suck in his sleep, but he also does that when he’s awake too.
  • Only the Umpire-in-Chief could make someone do both games behind the plate.
  • Is a cooler just a fridge that doesn’t plug in?
  • Josh Ramage and I had to leave before Cory Bond, Chris Hart, and Matt Ware started jerking each other off to old stories from the Winchester-SweatSox glory years.
  • Glasses and pitchers are out, schooners of diet soda are now in.
  • It took 88 steps to get from my table to my truck.
  • The gum bucket picture streak continues!!

NEXT UP: As the SweatSox prepare to take on the Rockets at Trillium later tonight with a 6:00pm start time, both teams look to rebound from their recent losses against the formidable Los Latinos, making it an exciting opportunity for one of us to kick off a fresh winning streak.
