And now, in my own words, a breakdown of last night’s SweatSox vs Barons match-up:
KINSMEN– Last night, for the 3rd time this season, the Stittsville SweatSox and Bytown Barons faced off in NCBL action. We could yadda yadda through the first 6 innings, but basically the SweatSox scored 2 runs in the 1st on RBI singles from Trevor Williams and Mike Pignat. The Barons scored 4 runs over the next 5 innings, taking a 4-2 lead into the bottom of the 7th inning, setting the stage for a most improbable finish.
Larry Pawelek led the inning off with a walk, and then in a brilliant managerial move by SweatSox Authority Cory Bond, he was removed from the game for the slightly quicker Jaspreet Sanghra.
Marc Lett was up next and struck out swinging.
I, Shaun Keay, was then supposed to be up, but was told my services in this game were no longer required. Kent Johnston, who was half asleep on the bench, got the call, and drew a walk.
Phil Leduc was up next, and he too drew a walk.
Eric White stepped into the batter’s box with the bases juiced, and watched as back to back wild pitches tied the game, before also drawing a walk.
Trevor Williams had a chance to be a hero, but grounded into a fielder’s choice that had Phil Leduc thrown out at home plate. Phil says he was in there, and tried to get the call sent to New York for review, but nobody answered.
With 2-outs, Nick Henderson got his shot to win it, but flew out to the 2nd baseman to end the game in a tie. That is what we would’ve written if what should’ve happened, actually happened…
In reality, the Barons 2nd baseman ended up dropping the easy can of corn, allowing Eric White to score the game winning run from 3rd. SweatSox win! Perhaps the Barons weren’t used to playing night games either, or maybe it had something to do with that weird light on Hazeldean that sometimes messes with the right side of the infield, but either way, we’re not giving that one back. SweatSox 5 – Barons 4.
Shoutout to Eric White, who not only scored the game winning run, but also picked up the win, throwing the final inning and two thirds, recording all 5 outs by way of strikeout. Josh Ramage picked up the no-decision, throwing the first 5 and a third, giving up 9 hits, 2 earned, with 3 walks and 3 HBP’s.
The SweatSox are back at it next week, when we take on the Lumberjacks at Heritage.

Final SweatSox vs Barons Notes/Thoughts:
- The best place to make boom boom at 1 in the morning is at the rents
- Obviously the Penske driver is Penske material
- The hatred for ketchup and ketchup related products is not universal in the Cory Bond household
- Nick Henderson was not happy with Cory Bond’s nut situation last game, that issue was corrected last night
- In the Battle of the Josh’s, it was J-Primeau who walked away all bruised up after being plunked by his counterpart J-Ramage not once, but twice
- A McCarthy hop is bad, but a Lower Kinsmen hop will put you in the hospital
- The SweatSox aren’t used to the sun setting during our games
- The SweatSox will not play if there’s smoke, rain, a threat of rain, leftover rain, or a detour somewhere in the city
