Ross, You’re a Good Dude… | SweatSox vs Rockets III RECAP

Posted on July 17, 2023May 5, 2024

It’s all about the game, and how you play it. All about control, and if you can take it. All about your debt, and if you can pay it. It’s all about pain, and who’s gonna make it.  ACKNOWLEDGE ME!

And now, in my own words, a breakdown of last night’s SweatSox vs Rockets match-up:

SOUTH OF THE WAVE POOL- Last night at Trillium, the Rockets continued their dominance over the SweatSox, scoring 5 runs in the 4th inning en route to a 7-2 win.

It was looking for most of the day like this game would be rained out, but Eric White promised us he could get the field ready in time for first pitch.  Then, in one of the few managerial slips by our Authority Cory Bond, Eric was given the green light to proceed, even though he was our starting pitcher.  Eric did end up getting the field playable, but we all paid for it later when he ran out of gas on the mound in the 4th inning, after giving up a season high 5 earned. Who could’ve seen that coming?

Larry Pawelek and Josh Ramage threw the final three innings, giving up just 2 hits and 0 walks.

The entire SweatSox offense came courtesy of Steve Brown, who’s first inning 2-run homerun to “deep” center was all the SweatSox could muster.  Josh and Larry also chipped in with 2 hits each.

Ultimately, the SweatSox fate was sealed the moment we saw the NCBL’s only 98+ game winner Mike Bayley warming up in the pen before the game for the Rockets.  He was mowing down our two Doug’s back in the 90’s, and 25+ years later he had no problem mowing down our six Mike’s. Complete game, 10 hits, 2 runs, 0 walks, and 4 K’s. Beast.

Shoutout to Kent Johnston, Trevor Williams, Marc Lett, and Phil Leduc, who all struck out against the Bay.

NEXT UP for the SweatSox is a game against the Padres, tomorrow night at Southgate, weather permitting.

Close enough…

He first beat the SweatSox back in 1996 as a member of the @NCBL_Raiders, likely for career win #1.

27 years later, he’s still got our number.

Congrats to the Bay on “official” win #99.

Rockets 7. SweatSox 2.

Final SweatSox vs Rockets Notes/Thoughts:

  • The Powers That Be have a 50% success rate in productive chats with our pitching staff this week
  • The SweatSox were 9-6 with 8 guys hitting .300
  • Ross is a good dude, and we love him man, but he shouldn’t chime in on anything
  • Kent Johnston smashed a box of Maverick’s donuts on the way home from golf. He’s never been happier.
  • The Z isn’t good for Craig Cornell’s high BP
  • Josh Ramage finally got invited to the Cornell Compound for a Soak
  • The Queensway being closed should’ve been reason enough to cancel an East-End game
  • The place to be before a game is Kent Johnston’s driveway
  • The SweatSox remain winless in games played right after we’ve gone to the cage
  • If Cory Bond doesn’t show up to a game (i.e. he dies), Josh Ramage will tell everyone where to play, Larry Pawelek will manage the team, Dave Rotari will score the game, and I, Shaun Keay, will continue to do the website and oversee our socials
  • Craig dropped the ball on Big League Chew, but that’s probably a good thing since we’re a Dubble Bubble team
  • BUS COP IS BACK
  • Steve and I (Shaun Keay) went back to back on the can stands; some say it’s the greatest back to back in SweatSox history since Dan Massey and Craig Cornell circa 2004
  • The SweatSox are all in on the Canadian Professional Chuckwagon Association, and are backing Dallas Dyck as our favourite.
  • If Steve Brown wants to ask you something, he’ll do it over the phone, like actually calling you and using his voice to communicate.  Not this texting stuff the kids are all doing.
