Oh, it’s time to rock and roll. This time I’m in control. Right now I own the streets. I got the keys to the city. That’s cause I get down. ACKNOWLEDGE ME!
And now, in my own words, a breakdown of last night’s SweatSox vs Padres match-up:
THE KINS- After back-to-back-to-back-to-back rainouts, the SweatSox were back in action for the first time in 2 weeks last night at Kinsmen. The game-plan coming in was simple, in fact it was the same one we had in place for each of our 4 games that were just postponed: Josh Ramage is starting, Phil Leduc is sitting, and we’ll take our chances from there.
The story of this game was the absolute inability of the SweatSox to push more than the 8 runs we actually did score across the plate. The SweatSox recorded 8 hits, drew 15 walks, and stranded an impressive 16 (out of a possible 18) runners during 6 innings of play. The MLB record is 20 stranded runners over a 9 innings game (2.22 runners per inning), while our 16 in 6 is now a new baseball record of 2.67.
Individually, Marc Lett was the only SweatSox starter to leave less than 3 runners on base (1), while Josh Ramage (6) and Eric White (5) weren’t quite as clutch.
Let’s get to the actual game recap, and fast forward to the final inning with the game tied 8-8: We had a chance to walk this one off with the bases juiced, one out, and our 3 (Steve Brown) and 4 (Josh Ramage) hitters due up, but back to back infield pop-ups ended this one in a draw.
SweatSox 8. Padres 8. Final.
Offensive shoutouts go to Eric White, who led the game off with his first triple of the season, and to Cory Bond, who led the team in runs scored (2) for the first time in years.
On the bump, our Hero of Hydration Josh Ramage threw 3 innings of 7-hit ball, giving up just 3 earned with 3 strikeouts (and a possible career high 5 walks), but ended the game with a bigtime NO DECISION thanks to the relief effort of Eric White, who faced just 10 batters over his 3 innings of work.
Defensively, I, Shaun Keay, got hurt in the first playing first, and was forced to remove myself from the game. Doctors say I reaggravated an old tennis elbow injury; this better not affect my game, because if I can’t play tennis, I have no reason to live! At least I’ll always have grace.
Other injuries from last night include Kent Johnston (diving catch related pain), Larry Pawelek (back), Eric White (groin), Josh Ramage (mound visit related rage), and Trevor Williams (ego re: shootout fiasco).
NEXT UP for the SweatSox is a matchup with the Bytown Barons tomorrow night at Brewer.
Close enough…
