The Jolly Taxpayer | SweatSox vs Rockets IV RECAP

Posted on August 16, 2023May 5, 2024

Booyaka. Booyaka. 613.  Booyaka. Booyaka. That’s my pueblo.  Booyaka. Booyaka. 613.  Booyaka. Booyaka. Shaun Keay.  ACKNOWLEDGE ME!

And now, in my own words, a breakdown of last night’s SweatSox vs Rockets match-up:

SPLEX– Last night, the SweatSox and Rockets met for the 4th and final time this regular season, with the Rockets leading the season series 3-0.  We finally got the Rockets away from Trillium, so we were hoping they’d be off their game and we could avoid a humiliating sweep.  Things were looking even better once we got there, when it was announced that Mike Bayley would not be starting; we had a shot!!!!

The SweatSox opened the scoring in the 3rd on a Kent Johnston sacrifice fly to LF, deep enough that Marc Lett was able to easily score from third.  The Rockets tied the game in the 4th on a Dave Bergevin sacrifice fly to LF, deep enough that Randy Upshall was able to easily score from third. Like I said, those sac’s were DEEEEEP. There was no scoring in the 5th.

Josh Ramage started the game for the SweatSox, and pitched 5 very strong innings, giving up just 7 hits and a walk, recording 3 strikeouts along the way.

After a lengthy discussion with his pitching staff just before the 6th, SweatSox Authority Cory Bond opted to make a pitching change with the score still tied 1-1, bringing Eric White into the game to hold the tie and maybe even get the dirty dub.

This plan was quick to backfire, with the Rockets scoring 4 runs on 5 hits, effectively putting the game away.  After a leadoff double in the 6th, Kent Johnston eventually scored on a Josh Ramage groundout to make the score look a little prettier: a 6-2 Rockets win, and as a result of that: a 4-0 Rockets season sweep.

Although the Authority may make a few calls after a 24-hour “cool down” period, Eric White is credited with the L in back to back SweatSox games for the first time since July 2017, when the Outlaws and River Rats got the better of him just as he was coming out of the concussion protocol.

Offensive honourable mentions goes out to Marc Lett, who led the team with 2 hits, and myself (Shaun Keay) who led the team in stolen bases with 1.  That’s right, I had more stolen bases than Eric White, Jaspreet Sanghra, Nick Henderson, Larry Pawelek, and Josh Ramage, COMBINED!

NEXT UP for the SweatSox is a matchup with the Padres tonight at Trillium.

Close enough…

? 6 ? 2

It was bring your own ? night over at the Sportsplex, where the Rockets completed their 4️⃣ game season sweep over the SweatSox.

WP- Murphy (4-2)
LP- White (5-4)

Final SweatSox vs Rockets Notes/Thoughts:

  • Kent Johnston chores on Saturday so he can golf on Sunday
  • Steps be damned. If there are no golf carts, there will be no Josh Ramage, but there will be a Jason Klein, and a Hank!!
  • Golfing is basically a hike with 120 breaks
  • If Josh Ramage can’t walk 18, how the hell is he going to throw a CG in the playoffs?
  • Tim kind of looks like Sean Elias
  • Tied heading into 18, Cory Bond (who was 7-up through 9) narrowly retains the BJ ball with a double bogey, which just beat my three-putt triple
  • The weakest link in a room is always Mark Bond
  • Nobody drives the ball better after an unsanctioned mulligan than Mark Bond
  • Nobody works and reworks quite like Josh Ramage
  • Ross Hughes always finishes first
  • There’s no better place to get a JBC in NYC than the Wendy’s on Bond Street
  • Cory Bond does his best work in under a minute
  • Steve Brown loves a good menage a un
  • Nick Henderson is doing his wife a favor by staying out late after the game
  • Larry launders his money at the honest taxpayer
  • Marc Lett’s jersey was so gross, he had to ditch it at the Sportsplex
  • The official rating was: fucking terrible
