How much weight has Ramage lost?
Every f’n Rocket that reached first base
TRILLIUM– Last Friday night, the SweatSox ended a streak of 7 straight regular season losses versus the Rockets, with a 16-7 win over the boys from RainSoft. The SweatSox were up 2-0 in the 1st, down 5-2 in the 2nd, but then exploded with 10 runs over the next 2 innings, setting the tone for a much needed slump-busting victory.
With the dub, the SweatSox improved our regular season record against the Rockets to 7-15-1 (since 2001, we aren’t quite sure what happened in 2000), and 4-11-1 since we returned to Tier 3 in 2018 and renewed this one-sided rivalry.
The SweatSox were led by starting pitcher Josh Ramage, who couldn’t find his jersey before the game so he had to break out the old black & white. Ramage went the distance, giving up just 9 hits, 3 walks, and 1 earned run, while setting the SweatSox all-time innings pitched record, formerly held by our GLE Cory Bond.
There were several individual standouts for the SweatSox last night:
- Kent Johnston was 3/4 with a walk, and added another spectacular diving catch in center field to his highlight reel. Our former Director also scored a team high 4 runs, the perfect final practice before his big Ottawa marathon run yesterday.
- Mike “Mike” Pignat was also 3/4, but with 3 RBI, 2 runs scored, and a HBP. But is he okay?
- Mattingly Romanin was 2/3 with a walk, double, sac fly, and 4 RBI in his SweatSox debut, but more importantly learned a valuable lesson about keeping the bat on your shoulder with 2 strikes in men’s league baseball: don’t.
However, the winner of the 2004 A&W Kamloops International Baseball Game MVP award was Nick Henderson. BDN was 1 of 3 SweatSox with 3 hits, but was the only one to hit a HR, his first since Little League, and off future NCBL Hall of Famer Nick Lenardon no less. Henderson was also a sponge at 2nd base, recording a team high 7 assists, with 2 putouts and 0 errors. Not bad for a guy who started this game on the bench.
Most importantly, none of our success Friday night would’ve been possible without the efforts of our 6x Most Valuable Player Eric White, who was ejected from the game after the first play of the game, forcing the rest of us to step up to a whole new level to make up for this most untimely of losses. By the way, these new levels with have steps, and it’ll all be carpeted with lots of pillows. Levels.
Finally, in this week’s edition of Apology Corner, I, Shaun Keay, would like to apologize to my co-best friend Josh Ramage, for apologizing to the NCBL Schedule Makers re: Sportsplex favouritism in the last recap. The Hero of Hydration was deeply offended at my “appalling display of kiss-ass”, and strongly believes the Sportsplex should be spread out equally between all Tiers, and not “Nepean Brewer centric”.
If they want to play at a field with their name in it, forget the Nepean, send them to Brewer
Josh Ramage
Furthermore, our Arsonist believes if there is going to be preferential treatment, it should be for the lower tiers playing at the better fields more: Tier 1 shortstops can probably handle the Trillium hops, Tier 3 shortstops cannot (ex. see Ty Murphy’s face after our game).
BTW- This unwavering stance is Josh’s, and Josh’s alone… Here are the official positions from other high ranking SweatSox:
| Pro-Beelen Scheduling | Anti-Beelen Scheduling |
|---|---|
| Cory Bond | Josh Ramage |
| Craig Cornell | |
| I, Shaun Keay |
Final SweatSox vs Rockets Notes/Thoughts:
- The SweatSox don’t practice, but if we did we have some infield drills ready to go
- Is lube a sex condiment?
- At this point watermelon scented bat tack is better than no tack
- Phil’s all-time favourite pitcher to catch for is Famous Dave
- Mark got a Honourable Mention for last weeks Tier 3 POW
- The best discount out there is the Hilti Phil discount
- Are exoskeletons legal in the NCBL?
- Andrew is feeling way better
- You always have to read the fine print on Dominos coups
- Tickets shmickets, the only thing we want to see on game days is the starting lineup
- Is Phil Cory’s new candy supplier?
- Nick Lenardon came real close to becoming the NCBL’s sole all-time HR leader
- Nick Henderson’s HR trot was Bartolo Colon’esk
- Don’t hate on gummers until you’ve had one
- There’s one less hooker in Osgoode than there used to be
- Asparagus might be the most common reason for stinky pee. The harmless odor is caused by a breakdown of asparagusic acid. Your genes affect whether you can smell these sulfur byproducts. If you can’t, that’s called asparagus anosmia.
- Nobody loves, and likes, a new NCBL Facebook post more than John Mendonca
- Trevor could do a full marathon if he wanted, he just gets too bored at the half-way point
- A panzerotti is a savory turnover that resembles a small calzone, in both shape and dough used for its preparation
- Nothing good comes from feeding fish at 1 in the morning
- If I, Shaun Keay, was stuck in an elevator for at least 69 minutes with nothing to do, I would’ve definitely worked on the 2019 Championship recap
- Kent’s attendance for Monday’s game is questionable, but it’s okay, because:
NEXT UP for the SweatSox is a match-up with the Padres tonight at Trillium, weather permitting.
