TRILLIUM- The SweatSox secured a thrilling 3-2 win over the Lumberjacks on Sunday, thanks to a timely hit from Josh Ramage and airtight defense. With this victory, the SweatSox even our season record to 4-4.
The turning point of the game came in the third inning when Ramage stepped up to the plate and delivered a clutch single, bringing home Trevor Williams for what would prove to be the game’s decisive run. Ramage, who took the mound fully rested after a long, smokey night at the Snoop concert last week, kept the Lumberjacks in check with a dominant seven-inning performance. He allowed only five hits, two walks, and zero earned runs, but notably relied heavily on his defense with zero strikeouts recorded.
Shortstop Eric White led the defensive effort with seven assists, and the outfield trio of Sanghra, Williams, and MBond combined for eight impressive catches. The best one was from T-Bills, who dazzled the crowd with a remarkable catch to end the sixth inning, barely resisting the temptation to crash through the Trillium fence “like the Kool-Aid Man.”
Ramage was also a standout at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBIs, earning him Offensive Player of the Game honors. Cory Bond, crowned Sweatiest Player of the Game, went 2-for-3 with an RBI and marked a career milestone with his 300th NCBL hit. An honorable mention went to Jaspreet Sanghra, who also logged two hits, including a double to the opposite field.
Tyas Montgomery pitched valiantly for the Lumberjacks (as he always does against us), going the distance in a complete game effort but ultimately took the loss.
The SweatSox return to action on Thursday, set to face the Padres at the Sportsplex, weather permitting.
POST-GAME TWEET UPDATE: For those just tuning in, the SweatSox are not posting recap tweets after our games until the following conditions are met:
- Josh gets his batting average back to .400
- He gets a pitching win
- He wins Tier 3 Player of the Week Honours
This is of course because Ramage seemed to be caring more about our socials than on-field production, so we issued this challenge to him in order to get his game back on track. With 3 hits and a win today, 2 of the conditions have been met, it’s all in Joe Beelen’s hands now…
Final SweatSox vs Lumberjacks Notes/Thoughts:
- Craig won’t eat hotdogs for recreation, only for competition, or if he’s really hungry.
- Kent’s radar predictions are like a pregame bullpen. The worse he says it is, the better it will actually be at gametime.
- The knuckle to finger ratio was off.
- With the Dukes batting 3 through 7, how could we possibly lose?
- Trevor was late because he slept through his alarm, the worst case of sleep-in since Cory slept through a 2008 regular season game, with the equipment.
- Weather app down, frustrating both benches. When it came back, Kent realized it moved (but not as a result of contact).
- Who makes the AI? Allen Iverson of course.
- We may be in the market for a pube landscaping Groupon.
- Is biweekly twice a week or once every two weeks?
- Trevor puts his pants in the freezer, not a pizza oven.
- A Grindr shows up to the Splex much quicker than an Uber.
- Cory won’t mess up the dog:bun ratio if it means someone gets screwed out of a dog.
- Steve doesn’t give a fuck, and will eat anyone’s dog at any time, as real Mike quickly learned.
- The Guinness Challenge (between bottom of harp and top of G vs middle of the G) is like the ground rules at Trillium: it depends on who is officiating that day.
- If you have one of those baseball backpacks that makes you look like Donatello, putting your spikes on your bats when you’re not wearing them is the cool thing to do.
- Thanks again to Andrew & Trevor for the BBQ feast.
- Larry’s pregame speeches aren’t as impressive as Cory’s, but they are equally effective.
- Lil’ Phil did a great job getting those foul balls while we were on the field.
- If you can’t see the stats, take the ‘s’ out of ‘https’.
- Trim the hogweed, bleach the hole.
- Peck release therapy is not as good for the body as releasing the peck.
- Whenever the SweatSox get expelled from the league, Josh will go to the Rockets because of their strong affiliation with water, Eric will go to the Heat because Win is right there in their name, and Cory will go to the Brewers to make it that much easier for him to suck up to the Beelen’s.
- Chunk’s still doesn’t have Coke Zero, but they do have way too much CFL.
- You just leave the $100 on the counter, and hope the lady cleans your house.
- The Sweat Sox and Black Sox chats are easy to confuse.
- Cory must’ve been in a good mood if he let Josh bat and pitch in the same game.
- Hurtin after a win is a lot better than hurtin after a loss.
- If Larry quits smoking, the tobacco companies would have to fold.
- Our game was a family friendly affair, unlike the Padre’s Day Massacre that would take place soon after.
